About Us

The Historical Perspective
Achieving rights and opportunities for the discriminated brought us to the forefront and as a registered organization Bhatkya Vimukta Jati Shikshan Sanstha (BVJSS). BVJSS started its work in the year 1985 with its basic objective of working for the nomadic communities in India. Powerless people are excluded from popular human rights movements and focused effort is required to protect and promote their human rights. Addressing discrimination in legislation, policies, and society contributes to an environment in which excluded people have more control over their lives. Providing facilities for the people who have lived like outsiders in their own country became the goal of the organization.

BVJSS as an organization has residential and non-residential children studying in the schools for the handicapped and the nomadic communities. Apart from these students it also looks after 100 destitute children for whom it runs the sponsorship program. The organization has strongly felt that to offer a normal and home life a lot of programs as are done in the family should be organized and so with the help of the volunteers and friends of BVJSS, the organization has established a number of programs related to extra-curricular activities like sports, cultural programs and excursions. Our major focus is on the physically and mentally challenged children. Due to poor living conditions the parents are not able to pay more attention and care to the challenged children, the medical and educational facilities too are available only within the city limits and nothing is made available at the village level. Hence the organization has initiated a project in the rural areas of Pune district to look after the challenged children at the village level.

The difficulty in accessing medical and rehabilitation care, education and vocational opportunities is often faced by the rural residents of our country. The lack of mobility further aggravates this difficulty and due to these factors many families refrain from enrolling their children in school. The lack of facilities also leads to lack of rehabilitation of the challenged children and their inability to improve physical functioning. BVJSS also works with the families to help them overcome the social stigma associated with the illnesses and disabilities of their children.
